How salt pools work
A salt chlorine generator converts dissolved salt into chlorine through electrolysis. The salt is not consumed; it is only lost through splash-out, backwashing and rain dilution, so after the initial fill you usually only top up a few bags a season.
Target salt level
Most salt cells operate best between 2,700 and 3,400 ppm, with 3,200 ppm a common target. Always use your manufacturer's recommendation: too little salt stops chlorine production, too much can trigger errors and corrosion.
